Mourn the Dead - Fight for the Living

April 28, 2020 - National Day of Mourning for Workers Killed on the Job

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are unable to gather in person today to mourn the unnecessary deaths of 165 Albertans who have lost their lives at work. Unfortunately we will never know the true toll on working families in Alberta but today we do our best to honour them all.

Here is a powerful message from our local Health & Safety officer, Rashpal Sehmby, on the importance of commemorating today:

Join Greg Mady (President, Edmonton & District Labour Council), Gina Puntil (Alberta Workers Health Centre), & Gil McGowan (President, Alberta Federation of Labour) as they raise awareness around Day of Mourning, workers rights, and health & safety. The EDLC made a very touching video commemorating each of the 165 Albertan workers killed on the job last year, please take the time to hear their names and spend a moment in reflection on how there could be a better world where there are no names to read at all.
