In this week's dispatch, we're covering the new Local 730 Executive, an upcoming Social Committee event, the Prairie School for Union Women, the National Day of Mourning, and the upcoming Welcome to CUPW course being held in Nisku.

Welcome to the New Local 730 Executive
 
The Local Executive elections have now ended and the newly elected Executive members were sworn in at the end of the GMM on April 6th.
 
The new Local Executive now includes Devon Rundvall (President), Rashpal Sehmby (Health & Safety Officer), Stephanie Bourque (2nd Vice President - EMPP), Vanessa Danbrook (4th Vice President - RSMCs), Kathleen Mpulubusi (5th Vice President - Maintenance and Garage), and Kyle Turner (Communications Officer).
 
If you are interested in being involved in the Executive or being a Local Officer, please check our Local By-Laws for the requirements to be nominated for these positions. You can find our Local By-Laws HERE.

Social Committee Event
 
The Social Committee will be holding a karaoke event at Rosario's Pub and Grill (11715 108 Ave NW) on Friday, April 19th. Start time is 9 pm, and, if my memory is correct, it 'ends when it ends.'

Prairie School for Union Women
 
The Edmonton Local's Women's Committee has passed a motion to send up to six sisters to the Prairie School for Union Women, which is being held June 9th-13th in Regina, Saskatchewan. If you are interested in applying, please email Secretary-Treasurer Karry Biri (Treasurer@cupwedm.net). The deadline to do so is April 26th

National Day of Mourning
 
The National Day of Mourning happens each year on April 28th. This is a day to honour the workers who lost their lives as a result of their jobs.
 
The EDLC will be hosting an event at Grant Notley Park (116 St and 100 Ave) at the Broken Families Monument from 11 am until 1 pm on Sunday, April 28th. There will be a ceremony followed by a catered lunch, and the EDLC is asking that if you wish to attend, please RSVP so they know how much food to order.

Welcome to CUPW Course
 
The Welcome to CUPW course will be happening on April 13th at the Coast Nisku Inn & Conference Centre (1101 4 St, Nisku, AB) from 9 am to 4 pm. In this course, you can learn why we pay union dues and where that money goes, but also how to get involved and how to change things.
 
If you would like to attend this course, you can notify the Education Officer at educate730@gmail.com.
