Local Dispatch (24/11/26)

Friends and comrades,

In this week's Dispatch, we are covering negotiations updates, the December GMM, strike pay cheques, members of United Nurses of Alberta to visit EMPP picket, and emailing your member of parliament.

Of course, we are still on strike. I've been updating the website with picket line locations. You can see that post HERE. If you have any picket locations you would like to add, please send along the address and time.

Solidarity,

Kyle Turner, Communications Officer

Negotiations Updates

In the last few days, there have been a number of updates about negotiations from our National office.

One of the most pressing is about our employer calling members to lay them off. The bulletin notes that this is a scare tactic by management and that the Canada Labour Code has protections against this kind of thing. To read the full bulletin, click HERE. For details that our Local Grievance Officer will need to help you file a grievance if you have been laid off, see our past Dispatch HERE.

To see the other bulletins, which include daily updates of negotiations with the mediator, I would encourage you to visit www.cupw.ca. To see the weekend negotiations update, click HERE.

They would like to thank CUPW for standing up for the rights of all workers. If you can make it out, please come!

Email to Member of Parliament

Acting President/1st VP James Ball has put together another form letter to use to email your MP.

Canada Post has begun laying off its striking employees in contravention of the Canada Labour Code. This is illegal and violates Section 94 (3) (vi) of the Canada Labour Code.

As the sole shareholder of Canada Post, the government can stop this or choose to be complicit.

As a constituent in your riding, I say stop laying people off illegally and bargain In good faith.

Sincerely,

[Name, Postal code]

If you are unsure of who your MP is or how to contact them, you can find that information HERE.
